YPAO runs from the receiver’s on-screen menu. Yamaha’s AV Setup Guide app can walk you through the same steps with pictures.
Run it
Beginner
- Turn on the receiver and TV so you can see the menu.
- Plug in the mic and put it at position 1.
- Open Setup, then YPAO.
- Choose multi-point measurement, or angle and height on models that have it.
- Start the measurement. After a short countdown, each speaker plays test tones.
- When asked, move the mic to the next position and confirm. Repeat for each position.
- Check the results on screen, then choose Save.
The AV Setup Guide app (iOS and Android) connects over your home network and guides you through wiring and YPAO with illustrations. It supports most recent Yamaha receivers.

What YPAO sets
Advanced
YPAO sets each speaker’s size (large or small), distance, level and crossover, and designs EQ for each channel. On models with R.S.C., reflection correction is part of the same run.
Run it again when
- You move a speaker or the seating.
- You add or remove speakers.
- Several levels or distances look wrong at once, which suggests the measurement was disturbed by noise or a moved mic.
A single distance that’s a few centimetres out can just be corrected by hand.
