This is where RoomPerfect is unlike other systems. The room positions should be random, not neatly around your seat.
Measure around the room
Beginner
- Move the stand to a random spot in the room and measure.
- Vary the height, direction and angle of the mic each time, including pointing it up, down or sideways.
- Keep the mic at least 0.5 m from walls and at least 1 m from speakers.
- After each measurement RoomPerfect shows a Room Knowledge percentage. Keep going until it reaches about 90 to 95%.
Don’t chase 100%. Lyngdorf says that forcing it higher means placing the mic in less random spots, which biases the result.

Advanced
Lyngdorf doesn’t set a number of positions. The Room Knowledge figure decides when you have enough. AVForums’ walkthrough reaches about 95% with random positions, then adds two measurements close to room boundaries, which typically lifts it to about 98%.
Unlike Audyssey or Dirac, the mic shouldn’t stay at ear height for these. The point is to sample the whole room, not the seats.
