Dirac Live FAQ

For most systems, yes, if bass is the problem. Room Correction evens out the speakers, and Bass Control and ART make the biggest audible difference with two or more subs. If your current correction already sounds right, measure before and after in REW and decide on evidence rather than forum opinion.

There’s no trial for Dirac on a receiver or processor. The only free trial is for Dirac Live Processor, the computer version: 14 days, one per user, for each of Room Correction, Bass Control and ART. Refunds follow the payment processor’s right of withdrawal, which ends once the download or activation has started. Prices vary by device, so check the price shown for your model.

Dirac runs a Partner Program with a custom installer track. We couldn’t find a public list of certified calibrators, so ask your dealer or installer whether they calibrate Dirac.

Dirac recommends separate groups for subs of different capability, so each can have its own support settings. Many users get better bass with all the subs in one group. Start with one group, then try splitting them and keep whichever measures better. A sub in its own group has no target curve of its own; it helps the groups it supports reach theirs.

Yes, for Room Correction. On Denon and Marantz, Multi Ch Stereo applies only distances, levels and crossovers, not the acoustic filters, so ART doesn’t run in that mode.

Yes, with an external processor. miniDSP makes a range of Dirac Live processors for stereo systems and for adding Dirac to a system that doesn’t have it.

No. You need a measurement microphone. See Step 2.

It can explain terms and suggest what to look at, but it can’t hear your room, and it often invents settings that don’t exist in Dirac. Check anything it tells you against Dirac’s help centre and your own measurements.

Dirac Live on a receiver runs inside the receiver and corrects everything it plays. Dirac Live Processor runs on a Windows or Mac computer and only corrects audio played from that computer. They’re separate downloads and separate licences. See Three kinds of Dirac Live for a side-by-side table.
